My approach to landscape photography is to create images with mood and atmosphere by using sympathetic lighting and harmonious composition. My work ranges from pastoral and woodland scenes with soft lighting to mountain views with dramatic lighting. I often prefer to select details from a landscape rather than the wider scene, to create simplicity and a sense of pattern. For the last few years, since moving to the New Forest area, I’ve specialised in tree and woodland subjects.
If you go down to the woods on a wonderful spring or autumn day you might find my cameras trying to creatively capture the beauty of the treescape. As for me, I’m having a picnic of course.
“Photographic vision is the strategic why and photographic style is the tactical how”: quote adapted from my own contribution to the Light & Land book “Developing Vision and Style”.
